Treatment of Psychogenic Nonepileptic Seizures: Theory & Clinical Application (1 CEU)

The presentation will focus on differentiating psychogenic non-epileptic seizures (PNES) from epileptic seizures and exploring the theories behind their manifestation. We will discuss how PNES relate to symptoms of hyper- and hypo- arousal, as well as common comorbid diagnoses. Finally, we will review interventions that are useful to decrease the quantity and severity of psychogenic seizures.

Amy Taylor, Psy.D., HSP, is a licensed clinical psychologist who received her degree from Spalding University. She completed an internship at the Veteran's Affairs in Huntington, West Virginia,
where she treated individuals who suffered from acute and complex trauma, interpersonal conflicts, and substance abuse and dependence. She received training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy from the Linehan Institute and specializes in treating trauma-and attachment-based disorders. She leads a co-ed DBT group in her private practice and provides therapy using DBT, CBT, hypnosis, and interpersonal techniques on an individual basis.
