WORKSHOP SUMMARY

Tracy Jacobson, MSW, CSW
Director of Family Programs, NAMI Lexington

Tracy serves as the Director of Family Programs with NAMI Lexington, the National Alliance on Mental Illness. She teaches family education programs, facilitates family support groups, and provides support/education to families in need. She is a Certified Mental Health First Aid Instructor with the National Council for Behavior Health and teaches the Mental Health First Aid course. Tracy feels her true expertise comes from being a family member of a person who has a mental illness along with the learned wisdom of the many family members she has had the pleasure to work with over the past nine years.

This training will address the following topics, and more!

Why is it so difficult to get an accurate diagnosis for mental illness? What are illness related behaviors? What is anosognosia and why is it so difficult to get proper treatment for our family member at times? How do we treat mental illness? How do medications work? What assists with recovery? What are some coping techniques for family members? What do we mean by system failure?
