Lobby Day Kickoff Seminar: Ethics for Social Workers

Activities for Lobby Day 2018 will kickoff with this seminar covering a variety of ethical considerations critical in the practive of social work. Topics Covered
What do monkeys, ravens and electric shocks have to do with ethics? You will learn the answers to these questions and much more during this three-hour course, which is approved by the Kentucky Board of Social Work and which fulfills the ethics training requirement for relicensure. The program will focus on the basic purpose of ethics in clinical practice, with a focus on ethical decision making methods and the use of case reviews to illustrate specific sections for the Code of Ethical Conduce for Social Workers. In addition to monkeys and ravens, the discussion will include a brief discussion of technology in clinical practice.

About the Presenter
Edwin Hackney is an MSW graduate of the University of Kentucky, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Licensed CADC. He has spent over 40 years in community mental health with a specialty in substance abuse treatment. He is currently semi-retired and provides LCSW and CADC supervision for various agencies. A former part-time instructor with the University of Kentucky College of Social Work, he is a long-time member of the Kentucky Society for Clinical Social Work and provides a variety of workshops and trainings across the state. Most recently he has served as a complaint investigator for the KY Board of Social Work.
